When people are young, they usually have an idea of what they want to be when they grow up. Amber Thayer, the new healthcare teacher at Etowah, always knew that she wanted to have a career related to wellness and health. However, she never imagined that she would have gone into the education field.

“I was kind of at a point in my nursing career where I needed to change a little, expand, and use my knowledge, so this was the perfect place to do that,” Thayer said.

After being a nurse for 22 years, transitioning to work in a school was different, but Thayer is thoroughly enjoying it so far. Knowing that she is helping her students further explore the world of healthcare inspires her to keep teaching.

“I love interacting with my students and teaching them all the things that I learned in my years of teaching,” Thayer said.

Thayer loves working in an environment where her teaching is appreciated and acknowledged. She found it easy to adjust to the school since the staff and administration made it trouble-free. She feels athough she can always rely on her fellow staff members if she ever has a problem.

“All of the CTAE teachers here in the building are very helpful,” Thayer said.

Thayer wants to make an impact on the school and her students by spreading her love of healthcare.
