It might only be October, but Etowah’s swim and dive team is already training to win the County Swim Championship for the fourth time in a row. Under the new leadership of coaches Kaitlyn Smith and Virginia Diedrich, the Aqua Eagles have high expectations for another fast season.

“It is fun to hold the county title, and since we’ve won the past couple of years, we have to keep our streak going,” Abby Modlinski, junior, said.

As the team adjusts to having a new coaching staff, a positive outlook on training is helping them work towards their goals.

“The biggest change is the addition of dryland conditioning, and while it is difficult, we are all staying positive and are excited to see the results of being better athletes and bonding as a team,” Devin Varnadoe, junior, said.

Returning swimmers are looking forward to improving on their personal best races and making more memories with both new and old members of the team.

“I am mostly looking forward to the meets this year because they are always fun,” Patrick Kinsella, senior, said.
