DIY+crafts+to+fall+for

Fall means different things to everyone: crisp morning air, the smell of pumpkin and cinnamon, and the calming hug of a fireplace on a chilly night. Welcome in fall, and warm up with these fun do-it-yourself projects.

Autumn leaf mobile

Supplies: long stick/twig, clear string, fake or real fall leaves, scissors, command hooks

Directions

1) Grab a stick or branch from outside.  Clean stick with soap and water. Set aside to dry.

2) Cut branch to the length desired length and arrange leaves at varying hanging lengths.

3) Knot pieces of clear string around stick. Leave 1-2 inches between strings. Tie the other end of string to the stem of each leaf at the desired length.

4) Hang your mobile! Place command hooks on each side of the mobile, and place on your wall.

Fun ideas:

  • Spray paint leaves with glitter or fun colors before stringing to jazz up the look. Make sure to let the paint dry before tying string on
  • Display pictures by attaching them to strings with mini clothespins or clips

Cozy no-sew blanket

Supplies: two large pieces of fleece (size of desired blanket), safety or sewing pins, and scissors

Directions

1) Grab the pieces of fleece and scissors! Match up pieces of fleece and pin together. Around the edges of each piece of fleece, cut three-inch slits around the border. Space slits about 1 inch apart.

3)Tie together the slits in the fleece with double knots. Repeat all the way around blanket.

4) Remove pins and snuggle up in your new fall blanket!

Personalized monogram mug (perfect for a homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte)

Supplies: plain ceramic mug, sharpie oil-based paint markers, stencils or stickers to outline

1) Clean off the mug with dish soap and dry.

2) Position a sticker on mug. Grab paint pens and start adding dots around edges all around the sticker, but be careful not to make any dots under the sticky side. When you get your dots how you like, remove sticker. Feel free to freehand some designs instead, too!

3) Make sure the area is well ventilated. Heat oven to 350 and bake mug for 30 minutes.

4) When the mug is finished, let it cool for at least an hour before removing it.

5) Take mug out of oven carefully and wash.

Fill with coffee, hot chocolate, or a pumpkin spice latte.

Here is a great recipe for a pumpkin spiced latte to keep your mug full all fall long!
