The final march

Color guard and the marching band had a different season this year with COVID-19 regulations. Photographed in the picture is the color guard with Meagan Nocheherly, junior and guard lieutenant, in the 3rd row, 4th right.  “To every downfall there’s always an upside, and I think because of that we were able to work on (color guard) technique more and work together in ways that haven’t really been done before,” Nocheherly said.

In the image above, Sarah Oburu, senior, is front and center in a circle of the Etowah Marching Band’s color guard group before the beginning of her last game.  “Being a senior means that I am a mentor to the freshman, and I dubbed myself as team mom. I’ve made memories and bonds that are irreplaceable,” Oburu said.
In the image above, Ben Furman, sophomore, (left) and Mitchell Inthirathvongsy, freshman, (right) are playing their instruments.    “It really bummed me out that I wasn’t able to march this year or be able to perform at away games and parades, but I was able to hang out and have a good time with my friends, and that’s what matters the most,” Inthirathvongsy said.
Sam Kopeski, senior and marching band drum major, is featured in this image.  “This has definitely been one of the weirdest years of my life, but I’ve been able to find a new home for myself by waving my hands in front of a band and audience,” Kopeski said.
Drum Major Jedidiah Davis, senior, is featured in the image.  “Our whole program, especially seniors, approached this pandemic with a large magnitude of energy and force of determination,” Stephen Long, band director, said.
Carlos Calderon, sophomore is playing the trumpet in the image.  “This season has definitely been different compared to past seasons but thanks to the work that everyone put in, it was just as amazing,” Calderon said.
Evan Blalock, senior, stands in the center of the image.  “I’ve been making the best of every bad situation thrown at me including the cancelation of band camp, away games, and parades. It’s my senior year, so I might as well make the best out of it,” Blalock said.
In the image above, Alex Furman, senior and section leader for mellophones, is pictured talking to his section before their halftime performance.    “The parade and away games were probably some of the best parts so one of the ways I’ve been able to push aside the bad was to just be with my section since they were really able to bring out the good in situations,” Furman said.
