Apple hits the jackpot

Nearly every American owns a form of technology, whether it is a smartphone, tablet, or a laptop. More than 57 percent of those U.S. citizens own one or more of Apple’s, a multicultural technology company, products.

“I have an Apple Watch, AirPods, and a Mac Book Pro. All of them are really convenient and reliable. Everything is fast working and takes little to no time to receive things like text messages and phone calls.” Ansley Speegle, junior, said.

Apple has become the first company to reach a three trillion dollar market share, which is defined as the percentage of total sales in an industry generated by a particular company. Several popular companies, such as Disney and Netflix, do not reach Apple’s worth, even when combined. One of the many reasons for Apple’s latest accomplishment is a strong demand for one of its newest products the iPhone 12.

“Compared to the iPhone I had before, this phone has a better camera and a better battery life. Overall, I am very impressed with the iPhone 12,” Laurel Obrien, senior, said.

Since the beginning of 2020, Apple’s revenue increased 47 percent due to the pandemic; strong online sales boosted their overall operations. The company’s iPad sales grew 31 percent, and its “other products” category, which includes AirPods and Apple Watches, grew 17 percent. The Mac Book Pro revenue rose almost 18 percent from 2019.

“We have the strongest product line up in both Mac and iPad we have ever had. It is the combination of those two things coming together at the same time that are producing these results,” Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, said.

However, Apple’s rise to three trillion dollars has not been without speclation. The company has repeatedly been called out for its cooperation with the Chinese government, including its censorship policies and need to store user data there.

“Apple complies with the laws pertaining to local entities that control customer data and provides data as legally required,” Daniel Howley said in an article.
