Mother’s Day DIY
More stories from Hannah Griffin
With Mother’s Day a few days away, students at Etowah are getting frantic to make plans or find a meaningful gift to give to their moms. Here are some nifty ideas if you are running out of time:
A vase of flowers
Items needed: vase, water, flower food, and your mom’s favorite flowers
- Buy some of your mom’s favorite flowers from a florist or a grocery store. The Kroger on Towne Lake Parkway has a great selection.
- Make sure you have a vase. You can buy for a dollar at The Dollar Tree.
- Fill the vase ¼ full with water and add the flower food that comes with the flowers into the water.
- Add the flowers and arrange in the vase. You may need to cut some leaves or stems shorter.
- Put somewhere your mom will see when she gets home from work. Perhaps, write a sweet note to put next to the flowers.
Spring/Summertime wreath
Items needed: twig wreath (any size), fabric flowers in various sizes and multiple colors, hot glue, wire cutters, ribbon to attach to wreath and hang
- Set out the bare twig wreath and plan where you want your flowers. Most would concentrate most of the flowers on the left side of the wreath and add some small ones around the rest of the wreath.
- If there are long wires attached to your flowers, cut the wires short to about 1 or 2 inches long or long enough to place within the twigs in your wreath. While you are doing this, plug in your hot glue gun and let it warm up.
- Places the flowers within the twigs on your wreath and hot glue the bottom of the flower petals to the wreath. Use as little glue as possible. Starting with the biggest flowers and then working down to the smaller sizes may work the best.
- Add some leaves to add a little bit of character.
- Add accent flowers and pieces. You can glue some flowers on top of other flowers.
- Attach a ribbon to the back of the wreath by hot glue.
- Wrap up or hang on the door to surprise your mom.
Personal picture frame
need Items ed: plain wooden picture frame, paint, accent Flowers, wire cutters, hot glue, photograph of you and your mom or something that is important to your mom.
- First, make sure you have a pictured printed and a frame for your picture. You can order a picture to print at your local Walmart and also get a cheap frame to fit the picture.
- If you would like, you can paint your frame with your mom’s favorite color or a neutral color that will match the décor in your house.
- You can also add some pretty accent flowers in the top left corner of the frame. Cut the wires off if there is any wire attached to them. Arrange the flowers and then hot glue.
- Place your photograph in the frame.
- Place the frame somewhere your mom will notice.
