Silly Bandz. Rainbow Looms. Poptropica. Light-up Skechers. These are just a few of the many childhood memories that seemed to fade over the years.

“I miss certain memories, the happy ones obviously, and I miss them because back then, I had so much more freedom, and I was not constantly concerned about the stress of getting good grades or doing anything,” Michael Mandle, sophomore, said.

A big childhood throwback is the original Disney Channel. When we were younger, it was typical for 10-year-olds to watch “Jessie” or “Hannah Montana” in their living rooms. I personally always fantasized about James Maslow from “Big Time Rush” being my imaginary boyfriend. Currently, Disney Channel has several less popular shows, like “Bizaardvark” or “Stuck in the Middle.”

“In my opinion, Disney shows now are nowhere near as good as they were when we were younger because they lack a good plot line and character development, but we could just be biased because of our fondness of childhood memories. I miss ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ and ‘Good Luck Charlie.’ Those were the good old days,” Lillie Dieters, junior, said.

Another common childhood obsession was Webkinz. Starting in 2005, Webkinz stuffed animals became popular among kids. The animal comes with a code to enter on the Webkinz website to create a virtual pet. On the website, kids could take of their virtual pets by providing them with things like a house or taking them for a walk in the park.

Webkinz brings back good memories. I collected tons of them and played with them with my sister, Kennedy, all the time. I would love to go back to those good old days,” Kelsey Cleveland, freshman, said.

The biggest flex of people’s childhood was the classic Nintendo DS. Walking into class with your DS case and stylus, wanting to play multi-player with your classmates made you cool. From New Super Mario Bros. to Pokémon Black and White, having a DS makes you the original gamer.

“I have so many memories of playing certain games on it with my friends and trying to beat each others’ scores,” Josh Hughes, freshman, said.

Finally, another nostalgic memory is the pop star Justin Bieber. I do not mean the Justin Bieber singing songs like “Sorry” and “What Do You Mean?” I am talking about the Bieber singing ”Baby” and “Never Say Never,” making every 10-year-old girl’s heart swoon. Having his first big hit “One Time” in 2008, Justin Bieber had a successful career and took off in the early 2010s.

“Listening to his [Bieber’s] old songs like ‘Baby’ do make me feel nostalgic because I can envision the places where I listened to them and people who I was with,” Kui Ikuru, senior, said.

Whether you miss singing Drama Llama or jamming to Kidz Bop in your room, we can all agree that childhood memories will always be a part of us.
