Most sophomores are just settling in to high school life, maybe starting a job, but probably not thinking too much about their college plans yet.

However, sophomore utility player Skylar Wallace is sorting through offers from many SEC schools to play softball.

Wallace has offers from University of Kentucky, University of Florida, University of South Carolina, University of Georgia, University of Tennessee, Ohio State University and University of Alabama. She would like to go to the University of Alabama.

While many student athletes use their high school years to gain scholarship offers from different schools, it is becoming more common for athletes to receive scholarship offers at a younger age.

After 14 college tours, Alabama had the most impact on Wallace.

“My parents have always been Auburn fans, and still are, but once I visited Alabama’s campus, I knew that it is the place for me,” Wallace said.

She like the University’s weight room, field, athletic dorms and the overall environment.

Wallace generally plays shortstop, but could be moved to anywhere her coach needs her.

“She is a person with great determination and drive and works every day to get better at the sport that she loves,” Coach Tori Brown said.

Wallace’s grandfather, who also coaches her along with her aunt, is the main reasons she started playing softball. She said her grandpa’s passion for softball inspired her to pursue the sport.

Wallace would want to play alongside Haylie McCleney, University of Alabama outfielder and SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

“She is a great role model and always has a positive attitude,” Wallace said.
