Galentine’s Day is for you!

Everyone knows about “Friendsgiving,” “Friendsmas,” and any other version of a holiday that is geared towards spending with friends. Galentine’s Day is the same concept but for Valentine’s Day. If you do not have a significant other to spend the day with, you can have a date night with your girl friends.

According to the popular television series, Parks and Recreation, the holiday of “ladies celebrating ladies,” is held on Feb. 13.

“Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. My lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas,” Leslie Knope, a character played by Amy Poehler, explained.

Dress up; go out; and dance the night away. Another option is staying in, putting on face masks, ordering a large pepperoni pizza, and having a movie marathon. The choices are endless.

“You don’t need a man on Valentine’s Day, but you do need your girlfriends to help you through it. Go out, and celebrate,” Brittany Miller, freshman, said.

Galentine’s Day presents an opportunity for women to celebrate friendship, and to live life according to the popular saying, “I don’t need no man!”
