Nothing better than cold weather
The day is Nov. 1, and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” has climbed back into Top 100 on iTunes. With spooky festivities over, there is nothing better than to throw on a big sweater and wrap up in a warm blanket. Cold weather brings people together, but the sense of family, holiday and good old holiday jams.
“My favorite part of the winter season is Thanksgiving and Christmas because that is when my whole family comes together just to spend time with each other,” Jacqueline Acosta, senior, said.
With all this being said, there are many quick pointers to help fight the winter blues, because dry skin, sickness, and troubled weather are factors that will do nothing but hold students back from living winter to its fullest.
“I hate getting sick during winter because I end up missing out on all the fun stuff going on at the time,” Annie Johnson, senior, said.
The temperature is dropping, and skin is drying. The lack of moisture in the environment causes skin cells to lose water; therefore, skin is left feeling dry or chapped. Prevent this by bundling up in warm clothes, using a heavy formula moisturizer and hydrating inside and out. It can be easy to get caught up in coffee or hot chocolate, but water is always the most important liquid to drink.
“My lips and skin always get so dry in the winter, so I always carry extra chapstick and lotion with me,” Pilar Lewis, senior, said.
Although many tend to get caught up in all the fun holiday and winter activities, there is a portion of the Etowah community that is homeless. These students depend on school functions to complete daily necessities such as getting a meal or taking a shower. To help the school’s homeless population, visit the counselor’s office to see how you can help donate to ones in need this holiday season.
