No excuses, just results
I am a lurker confined to the shadows, the behind-the-scenes person at The Talon. I have been pushing my hard-working journalists to pen their thoughts and get them published before Friday’s departure of our head Eagle. My job is to advise them, so you will not and should not find a byline from me here on The Talon. Until today. It dawned on me when yet another reporter had asked me for a quote or a personal story to share about my time with Keith Ball that I had a story, too. So I am stepping into the light for a few minutes, and then I promise I will go back into the shadows. About a year ago, I was looking to move back to Atlanta after being away for four years. I expected to return to Cobb County, where I taught before moving to Chicago, but after talking to teacher friends, I knew Cherokee County was where I wanted to be. I met with several other principals, but Mr. Ball was so passionate and fired me up, I knew I wanted to work for him within minutes of meeting him. His enthusiasm was contagious, and I knew he would challenge and inspire me. So, yeah, while I am thrilled for him for following his dreams, I am sad for myself. Selfish, I know, but I will miss out on not having him as my coach, my leader, my boss. No excuses, just results. That’s the sign outside Ball’s office. That is what I think of every morning as I walk into my classroom. That is what I reflect on every evening as I leave. (Mr. Ball, along with a letter of recommendation, will you leave me your sign?)
