The legend returns
The crowd roars. Light flashes. Music blares. Adonis Creed (played by Michael B. Jordan) is the champion once again. The world-renowned boxer is returning to the big screen once again in “Creed III” as he faces a visitor from his past.
As seen in the past two movies, Adonis Creed’s career is soaring following his win over Viktor Drago (played by Florian Munteanu), Ivan Drago’s, who killed Adonis’ father in a boxing match, son. Along with his boxing career, his family life is better than ever as he prepares to marry his fiancé, Bianca Taylor (played by Tessa Thompson), alongside their daughter, Amara (played by Mila Davis-Kent). Now, Creed has to face someone that he never thought he would see again: Damian (played by Jonathon Majors), his childhood best friend, has returned from prison, ready to make a name for himself in the boxing world. While Damian has nothing to lose, Creed must make harrowing decisions about his boxing career and his family’s future.
“Despite the well-worn path this story travels, it is very well acted and directed. As usual in this series, the fight scenes are expertly staged, but it isn’t all about blood, violence, anger and hatred. It is also about love, friendship and respect,” Robert Roten, critic, said on Rotten Tomatoes.
One aspect that has helped these movies reach their high successes and continue to produce more films is the main stars’ acclaimed acting, specifically Michael B. Jordan (MBJ). With a multitude of big movies under his name, MBJ is known for his phenomenal acting abilities that have helped him to fully portray both Creed’s power and emotional vulnerability. Because of this, he has won multiple awards throughout the years for the movies, including the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor in 2016 and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture in 2016 and 2020. On top of everything, many find it hard to deny that he has the looks for this role, which may just contribute to the films’ popularity.
“I think Michael B Jordan’s appearance is why it got so much attention. Obviously, some people watched it for the plot, but personally, I only watched it to see Michael B. Jordan. It has for sure received more attention through social media because of his appearances,” Olivia Bryan, junior, said.
Though the first two movies were very successful and thus hard to live up to, “Creed III” is, so far, meeting the high standards they set. Though Adonis Creed has to face the possibility of losing his boxing career in the third movie, with an 88% rotten tomato rating and a score of 7.3/10 on IMDB, “Creed III” is certainly not taking his acting career.
“Personally, I thought the movie was very action packed and exciting with all of the fight scenes. Also, I thought it had a great message about getting your emotions out in healthy ways. Overall, the movie was great, almost as good as the first two in the series,” Cooper Gilreath, junior, said.
Whether one wishes to see him show off his abs or compete in a vicious boxing match, MBJ has not thrown in the towel just yet. Enter the ring, and buy tickets to see “Creed III” here.
