The future of phase five
For almost 15 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has kept their viewers entranced, filling their movies with superheroes, villains, uncommon friendships and multiverses and offering relatable characters that fans can connect to. The MCU has struck again, releasing a sneak peek of the upcoming Phase Five films (an organization tactic Marvel created that sorts the movies into groups) that are set to hit theaters between 2022 and 2023.
On Nov. 11, 2022, Marvel will release Black Panther: Wakanda Forever into theaters. There have been rumors that the movie will replace Black Panther (played by Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020) with another actor. Despite suspicions, the director and writer, Ryan Coogler, has reassured the worried fandom that Boseman’s character will not be resurrected. Instead, the movie will explore the world of Wakanda and the other characters introduced in the first film.
“It is so cool that they [Marvel] are making another Black Panther movie, even without Chadwick Boseman. I am so excited to see how the movie compares to the original,” Mya Pounds, senior, said.
Antman and The Wasp: Quantumania is set to hit the screens on Feb. 17, 2023. The film has reportedly taken a “hard left turn” from the first two movies. The storyline will follow 18-year-old Cassie Lang, who is the daughter of Scott Lang, also known as Antman, as she takes on a superhero persona. The audience will get a chance to watch as Scott regains his footing after being lost in an atmosphere combined with all possible universes, known as the quantum realm, for five years.
“All of the Antman movies are so underrated. I hope that it [Antman and The Wasp: Quantumania] gets more recognition since Cassie is going to be a superhero,” Emily Supiero, junior, said.
Set to release on May 5, 2023, critics have predicted Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 to be one of the most influential movies of Phase Five. Director James Gunn began working on the script in 2017 and has promised that Rocket’s (a human-like raccoon who has defeated many villians during the previous two films) origin story will be explained. Gunn has also hinted that a major character will die in the upcoming movie.
“I am counting down the days until I can go see it [Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3]. My whole family is really excited but kind of nervous to see who dies,” Andrew Pucci, sophomore, said.
The future motion pictures are sure to make an impact on the new Phase Five, as many are already counting down the days until they are able to watch the features in theaters. One can find more information on the upcoming movies here.
