Winning is becoming a tradition for the Etowah swim team. On Jan. 25, the team won its fourth consecutive county title. 

Under the leadership of head coach Kaitlyn Smith and assistants Virginia Diederich and Cole Ross, the Aqua Eagles were able to end the season with another impressive win at the county swim meet.  

“I was thrilled with our outcome at county. We went into [the] county meet with high hopes of winning after a successful season but knew that we had to work hard to get what we wanted. Our placement was great, and [I] am hoping that our success continues as we move into the state meet,” Smith said. 

Teamwork and team spirit played a role in the monumental win at the meet. Teammates were cheering each other on from the first race until the last relay. 

“This season was great, and the feeling after winning county was amazing. The whole team was cheering everyone on,” Colin Kinsella, sophomore, said. 

To many, the win was no easy feat. The teammates had doubts and worried that the winning streak was going to end, but they managed to win by a margin of twenty points.  

“Winning county my freshmen year is a moment I will never forget. We all thought we weren’t going to win this year, but when they said we won by twenty points over the intercom, it was the happiest moment of our lives, and it brought us even closer as a team,” Kailey Bridgette, freshman, said.
