Computer Science teacher: Mr. Vacca

    More stories from Daynie Armstrong

What is your favorite part of your school day?

3:15. Just kidding! This is a rather difficult question to answer. I would say that my whole day is my favorite part of the day. That sounds like a cop-out answer, but so is the question!

Is there anything you would change about Etowah?

I’d like to see a mandatory computer science course that can couple with any subject. And obviously I’m bias towards this, but we are truly moving towards a technology driven world, and we need to start equipping our students with skills necessary to become competitive and informed in any field.

If you were not a teacher, what would you be?

I’d most likely not be a teacher. Was that too easy? Okay. I’d either be a stay-at-home Dad (There are a lot of new video games I don’t have time to play). Or, I’d be in the tech field probably designing software or being a consultant for solution-driven companies.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?

To try and keep from going back inside. For some reason my initial responses leave little to the imagination. I love playing with my kids in the park or at the pool. I also like to rollerblade. I’m good at that for some strange reason. I also collect spores, mold and fungus.

If you were to go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I’m more of an off-world person. I’d love to visit the International Space Station, or the moon. I would imagine it’s harder to get the news up there, so it sounds inviting. But if I had to stay on this planet, I’d love to visit Peru. Last time I was there was when I was three years old, and I remember nothing but the sun and good food, and that’s reason enough to return.
