Taking the dive
The Aqua Eagles have plunged into their season placing second out of six teams at the Cherokee Aquatic Center on Dec. 8, and have won several of their previous competitions this season.
‘’Our season has been off to a great start with our girls leading the scoring and our boys team definitely making an impact as well. We already have 10 swimmers that have made state cuts, and we are super proud of them,’’ Deborah Krug, head coach, said.
Last season, the swim team won at the county relay meet with the girls’ team coming in first place, and the boys’ team coming in fourth. The team also placed second at the Chief and Eagle competition, competing against Pope, Sequoyah, and Jackson County High Schools. The Aqua Eagles swam to win their 10th county championship.
“I love winning competitions because everyone is working for a common purpose and it pays off. It is the best feeling in the world to win a competition as a team because all of the hard work has paid off,’’ Lilly Zamorano, senior captain, said.
The Etowah swim and dive team hope to continue its winning season. Next up is a road trip to Rome during finals week.
