Walking into the C lobby, one may notice a sign reading “Etowah counselors.” Below the sign are five desks, and behind those desks sit five counselors. These counselors work diligently to help the Etowah community.

“One of our main goals is to just really be here for our students. We’re not only there to help our students with questions; we are often there to help their parents, and we also help teachers and staff,” Smith said.

Etowah students have a designated counselor according to their last names: Whitney Morberg (A-C); Taran Smith (D-Hi); Lisa Shull (Hj-Me); Michele Dowd (Mf-San); Travis Schmid (Sao-Z).

Etowah’s counseling department is not just limited to college counseling. They do transcript evaluation, Georgia Virtual School (GAVS) registration, and classroom/career guidance for the community to take advantage of. Their separate duties are under the EHS Counseling Canvas page.

“If you ever need help or don’t know where to start, we are here to help,” Smith said.

While counselors do have their individual responsibilities, they are mainly at Etowah to help the community and help students through rough times.

“Whoever you connect with and build that relationship with can have profound impact,” Smith said.

On Tuesday mornings and during lunches, counselors recently started “Coffee with the Counselors” on Dec. 4. They will be below the stairwell in the 3000 building in the mornings and in the cafeteria during lunches, open for students.

“We are starting a counselor’s corner in the cafeteria; that’ll be on Tuesdays also. Each lunch period, a counselor will be in there, available to answer any questions,” Morberg said.

In addition, students can schedule a meeting over email or through the counseling office, room 3108, with their counselor.
