The band performs its show, Catalyst, every Friday night at the football games, but all those hours of rehearsal are not just for the Friday night crowd. While the community had fun at the homecoming festival, the marching band spent Saturday at Creekview High School competing.

“My first competition was interesting; I was very nervous, but it was overall great,” Riley Warren, freshman, said.

The judges gave the band notable feedback to help improve the show, such as the placement of the soloists and the general effect of the show.

“The judges loved our hype and sound during the show. They commented on some areas of improvement for us to grow better for us to grow better for the competitions to come,” Kylie Geist, junior, said.

Judges score on four categories during the ceremony: color guard, drum major, percussion, and the overall band. In their division, Etowah placed third for drum majors and first in color guard. The color guard placed third overall in all divisions.

“I’m just so incredibly proud of everyone, especially everyone new to the team this year because we all put in a lot of hard work, and it paid off,” Olivia Berry, junior, said.

There are only two more competitions for the marching season. The band is not after trophies but rather the experience of performing for judges and getting feedback. If they happen to win along the way, then that is an added bonus.

Come and support the marching band; watch them compete on Oct. 27 at South Forsyth.
