No room in the band room
When non-band members walk through the Etowah band room door, then they may be met with screaming band students. It may appear the band and color guard students are snobbish for not letting anyone in, but there are many reasons why the band room is so sacred.
“The band room has more value and emotion than any other room on campus,” Jacob Black, freshman, said.
Instruments and equipment are expensive. If they go missing or get broken, someone has to pay for them. Many of the students cannot afford their own instruments and borrow school-owned ones. Band students trust other band students with their instruments, but that trust is not the same throughout the school.
“A lot of people use school-owned instruments, and if they are damaged, people would have to go without instruments until it’s repaired,” Emily Bilbro, junior, said.
Along with the costly instruments, students keep personal items in the band room, and with so many people already in the room, items can get lost easily. If people walk in and out, then someone’s lost belongings may never be found.
Out of respect for the band, it is best to stay out of the classroom. Band students spend so much of the time in the band room, it is like their second home. The rules are there for a reason; please respect them.
