Serving up a win
Etowah senior Grant Williford recently broke Cherokee County’s record for the number of tennis wins in a season. Williford’s record of 74 wins beats the previous record of 73 held by Etowah alum Cole Heller.
“[Tennis has] shaped me into being a more well-rounded person, and it’s made me better at multitasking and dealing with pressure,” Williford said.
Williford’s personal goals for the season were to commit to playing tennis in college, break the county record, and strive to be undefeated.
“I definitely felt a lot more confident in myself on the court, and I knew that I had to step up as a leader on the team so that we could be successful,” Williford said.
Williford struggled to balance his school work along with his tennis career, but with the support of his team, he was able to reach his goal.
“Some strengths were everyone supporting each other and everyone on the team becoming good friends,” Williford said.
Williford will play tennis at Loyola University – Maryland next year.
