Every Wednesday, Etowah students had the opportunity to attend the College & Career Café sessions in the media center. The café provided post high school and college options to give students an idea of what is available after high school graduation.

“I often feel that students receive misinformation through TV, media, or parents. This way they can hear about careers that they may have never thought about,” Taran Smith, counselor in charge of the College & Career Café, said.

This is the first semester that Etowah has offered the College & Career Café.

“I started this because I feel that it is my mission as a counselor to provide students with opportunities like this,” Smith said.

There have been a number of presentations including, Ready to Make Some Real Money, Aquaguard Foundation Solutions, University of North Georgia, and The Presentation of You. These presentations talked about how to get a summer job or paid internship, a job only requiring a high school diploma, college options, and the best way to present yourself to future employers and colleges.

“I went to one College & Career Café, and I thought that it was very educational and interesting,” Cassidy Hall, junior, said.

The College & Career Café was such a success that presentations will resume in the fall.
