As spring begins, new fashion trends are blossoming everywhere. Want to look like a model fresh off the runway? Follow this guide to getting the haute look.

The Color of Spring

According to Elle Magazine, lavender is the color of spring 2018. The light purple hue has been the rage on runways everywhere this season. Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, and Michael Kors displayed the pastel shade on slip dresses and blouses.

“I really like the color of spring because I think pastel color is happy and shows excitement and that summer is on its way,” Abby Modlinski, freshman, said.

Adding a purple accessory to an outfit is an easy way to be trendy.

Dad Fashion

Dressing like a mom or dad is no longer uncool. Mom jeans (high-waisted jeans with wider fitting legs), chunky sneakers, and baseball caps are back in style.

“Mom jeans will always be my favorite kind of pants, and I like how people are starting to wear ‘mom and dad’ clothes but make them fashionable,” Paige Tallman, junior, said.

Designer brand Balenciaga endorsed the trend with the creation of its Triple S Sneaker, retailing for $300. For those looking for cheaper alternatives, Asics and Sketchers are cool, too.

Floral Frenzy

As always, florals are the star of any complete spring wardrobe. This season, tropical editions of the prints are in stores everywhere. Gucci and Fenty Puma’s spring shows included Hawaiian inspired t shirts and buttondowns.

“Neon floral patterns give off a fun and carefree vibe and are a great way to celebrate the spring and throwback to the late sixties and seventies,” Katherine Tilton, junior, said.

Break out that Hawaiian dad shirt and knock out two trends in one. Other dark floral patterns capture this look, as well.

Denim Domination

Jeans are always in style, but in recent months, jean skirts, jackets, and even denim shoes have become high fashion. The denim train is showing no sign of slowing down. According to Vogue, dark wash denim is having its moment.

“This look is a celebration of America’s favorite fabric and achieves both minimalistic and eye catching aesthetic,” Tilton said.

A dark wash jean jacket is the perfect addition to a flouncy floral dress this spring.
