Fisher out of water
There is much more than what meets the eye to Madeline Fisher. She first got into writing in second grade, and was basically an author at birth. Her short story about a chicken who could only say “book” instead of “bawk” inspired her to write more, and it only went up from there. She aspires to write sketch comedy, and Journalism is helping her reach that goal.
Fisher loves comedy, and worships Saturday Night Live skits and the way that they satirize society. She often makes her own jokes and shares witty banter with her best friend, Haley Elizabeth James, who helps her prepare for the spotlight. Even though Fisher says writing for Saturday Night Live is an “unrealistic dream,” it remains in her perspective.
Fisher has her eye on Columbia College in Chicago to further explore her interest in comedy. Through college, she plans to head into The Second City improv program. Fisher admires Second City alumni like Tina Fey and Martin Short and hopes to one day follow in their footsteps. When she has time in her crazy life of procrastination, she also likes to write her own sketches.
Although Fisher has dreams that reach beyond journalism, she is excited for a new year. Fisher is eager to get to know all of the new students and form the same close-knit bond as last year. She is even more excited for the end-of-the-year celebration, otherwise known schoolwide as the “Newsies” by the students in journalism.
Fisher is a lot of things: a procrastinator, a comedian, and a best friend. Although she seems to be leading a normal life, her friends know how successful she will be in the future. Fisher never lets her dreams get out of hand, and works hard for what she wants. #FisherforEditor2018
