The mark made by millennials

“I’m here.” This is what we millennials text when we arrive at someone’s house to pick them up rather than knock on their door. This is what makes us seem lazy and uninterested while giving another reason for elders to generalize us as the worst generation.

Sure, we generally do what makes our lives easier, and choices like notifying when you are in your friend’s driveway via phone are not meant to be a rude gesture. No one thinks that deeply about it because we just assume that if you have that capability to shoot a text to make a process quicker, why not? Unfortunately, taking the easy way out is not the only poor quality we have that gives people reason to dub us the worst generation.

In comparison to the past, negativity fills the air much more today. This is the argument as to whether it is the generation bringing pessimism to the table or what we are exposed to. Today, things are easier for us. There are few things we actually need to work for which makes any inconvenience an absolute tragedy in comparison to the way things needed to be done before technology. I will be the first to admit that our generation as a whole is very privileged, but it is not the people worsening society. It is the conditions in which the people are growing up in.

We cannot help that we rely on technology as much as we do. As a generation, we are simply taking advantage of what we are given because we do not know any better. If it were the generation before us always on their cell phones or the generation before that one, they would be considered the worst, right? This goes to show that any person from any period of time can slip into the same bad habits that millennials have obtained if exposed to advanced technology provided in 2017.

“Imagine all of the things our generation is going to do,” Grace Cronkright, junior, said.

We are not the worst generation. In fact, every generation is told it is inferior to the previous generation. It is a constant cycle that cannot be avoided. Millennials have qualities that positively impact society, like any generation does. People simply choose to focus on the bad. Aside from Snapchat and Candy Crush being on the top of our priority lists, the accepting and motivated qualities of millennials are changing and will continue to change the world for the better.
