Fearless leader
McKenzie Spindler, senior, has always had a love for the arts. Ranging from journalism to photography, “hardworking” is just one word to sum her up. Spindler is one of two senior editors on the Talon staff.
“I started photography when I was in middle school because my cousin introduced me to it, and I just loved it,” Spindler said.
In addition to her plethora of hobbies, she balances school and a job. She works as a hostess at Gabriel’s at the Old Mill, a restaurant in downtown Acworth.
“It is really nice because I get money on the side to help my mom,” Spindler said.
Spindler joined journalism because she has an interest in both traveling and photography. She thought by joining journalism, she would experience more places she can travel to and take pictures.
“I want to travel to underdeveloped countries,” Spindler said.
She may be here, but her heart is already traveling. In the future, Spindler wants to travel to many places including the Middle East and Fiji. She wants to backpack across the Appalachian Trail and the Rocky Mountains.
“It would just be a great experience,” Spindler said.
Spindler plans to start training soon for her goal of backpacking across the Appalachian Trail around her mid-twenties. In the meantime, she is focusing on college where she plans to pursue either forensic nursing or journalism. Between photography and writing, it appears Spindler has a promising future.
