Nicole Martin: Reader, writer, golfer?
Nicole Martin, freshman, has developed a passion for writing, which she has made a big focus for her life. Her friends describe her as sarcastic, funny, and shy. She often spends her time with her family or out golfing—a hobby she greatly enjoys.
“It started when my mom had neck surgery. She wanted my brother and me to golf with her because that was the only thing she could do, so I did, and I ended up liking it,” Martin said.
Golfing, which Martin has done for about two years now, calms her, similar to reading. The quiet nature is what drew her to it. Martin can truly be herself when she is golfing.
“It is fun to be out there, and it is not very rushed,” Martin said.
Martin also has a passion for writing, one that sparked her interest in Etowah’s newspaper, The Talon.
“I like writing stories a lot; I want to be a novelist,” Martin said.
It began back in seventh grade, when Martin got her story published in the Towne Laker. Her teacher would periodically pick a story to submit, and when her teacher chose Martin’s, she was hooked.
She decided then that she wanted to write because she realized people liked it.
“I like to read, write, and hang out with my friends,” Martin said.
She wants to pursue writing in college with dreams of perhaps being an author.
