Sweet tooth for Easter
The time of year where candy sales are highest–Halloween, right? Wrong. Easter is the new king of candy. Companies come out with all their Easter-themed candies, from Peeps to Reese’s eggs.
According to the National Retail Foundation, one of the reasons more sweet treats are sold during Easter is 80 percent of Americans plan to celebrate the spring holiday while only 60 percent celebrate Halloween.
Even candies that sell all year are most profitable during Easter. Reese’s in egg form sell better than the peanut butter cups, but why? The eggs are larger, and the peanut butter to chocolate ratio is also different. More people feel the holiday Reese’s are fresher and want more peanut butter for their chocolate. Peeps, sold all year, are best known for its most popular form: the Easter editions. Peeps release special flavors during Easter, and some people only buy them to try the flavors. Another Easter favorite is the Cadbury Crème Eggs. Egg-shaped, milk chocolate surrounds a gooey middle that actually resembles an egg white and yolk.
You can find good deals on Easter candy now that the holiday is history. If you missed out, Halloween is only six months away.
