3.14 reasons to love π

“Love is like pi – natural, irrational, and very important” Lisa Hoffman, teacher, said.
Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 to mark the importance and the scientific sensation of the mathematical constant π (pi). It is celebrated this day because the numerical date is 3/14, which shares the same first three digits of Pi.
Circumference or the area of a circle can never be truly measured because the value of Pi is unknown. It is an irrational number, meaning its digits go on forever in a random sequence.
In some math classes, teachers allow students to bring pies, cookie cakes, or even a cake in general. They find a way to teach a lesson about Pi and all that goes with the never ending sequence of 3.14.
No matter how large or small the circle, 3.1415926 is always used. It could go on forever because, as an irrational number, Pi never ends. Pi has been calculated to 10 trillion digits past the decimal point, in which took scientists 371 days to calculate.
If numbers could be celebrities, Pi would be the most popular of them all. Pi is most known and most used. Pi Day is celebrated for the importance of the forever going number sequence and what it has done for us in the mathematical world. We also have a day to eat pies, cakes or many other sweets that are in the shape of a circle.
Do not forget to make your pies and calculate the circumference today!
