Movies with animated animals have always been entertaining to watch. While Disney may seem like the expert at this, Illumination now has its turn to shine in the spotlight. Its new movie, “Sing,“ earned $405.5 million in the box office.

“Sing” tells the story of a group of characters who want their chance on stage. Buster Moon, a koala bear, is trying to get his theater to be a success, so he can pay his bills. He decides to host a singing competition with a prize of $1,000, but when the flyers are sent out there, a typo quotes the prize as ten times that. More animals try out for the prize money than expected. The movie follows the problems of Buster, as well as the chosen talent. Johnny, a gorilla, struggles with the competition and his father, a criminal who wants his son to follow in his footsteps. Rosita, a mother of many small piglets, does not believe that she can succeed in the competition since she does not dance anymore. The movie follows many other characters and their problems.

An all-star cast lends their voices: Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon; Reece Witherspoon as Rosita; Scarlett Johansson as punk rock porcupine, Ash; Seth McFarlane as sarcastic mouse, Mike; and Tori Kelly as shy elephant, Mena.

Nominated for two Golden Globes, “Sing”  won the Hollywood Music in Media Award for best music supervision.

Rated PG, “Sing” is entertaining and offers plenty music genres as characters have their own style. If you enjoy animals, music, and singing, “Sing” may be just what you’re looking for.
