Nothing to sneeze at: Ten tips to survive cold and flu season
During cold and flu season, everybody can be a victim. Here are 10 ways to avoid getting sick.
- Cover your neck and chest. Use scarves to limit exposure to the cold air. This is also a great way to cover your mouth.
- Wash your hands frequently. Make sure you are not spreading germs so easily. Use hand sanitizer.
- Refrain from touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Cover your hands; they are the most susceptible to the cold weather.
- Exercise to strengthen immunity. “[Exercising] improves cardiovascular health, lowers blood pressure, helps control body weight, and protects against a variety of diseases,” Health.harvard.edu said.
- Eat healthy foods. This helps maintain a healthy immune system.
- Stock your medicine cabinet. Theraflu, Vicks and Delsym are just a few medicines that help relieve cold and flu symptoms.
- Drink plenty of water, and moisturize your skin. Hydration keeps your skin healthy and strong, so your body can fight off dangerous bacteria.
- Get plenty of sleep; it nourishes the body.
- Avoid stress. Stress can weaken your immune system, leaving you more susceptible to germs.
According to sutterhealth.org, flu and cold can spread by direct contact, through respiratory droplets generated through coughing or sneezing, or by touching an infected surface.
Try your best to stay healthy this season, and if you are sick, stay home!
