On Monday, Nov. 28, Representative Michael Caldwell awarded Etowah with a resolution that recognized Etowah’s achievements and service to the community in the past 40 years.

“I was honored by the offer and humbly accepted,” Keith Ball, principal, said on receiving the resolution.

The resolution mentioned how far Etowah has come from when it first opened its doors in 1976. The school only had 800 students at that time, and has grown to over 2,300. It also mentions how the school has received “countless state and national honors including being named a 2010 National Blue Ribbon School, being recognized in 2013 by Newsweek as one of ‘America’s Best High Schools’ and being recognized by the Washington Post each year from 2011 to 2016 as one of ‘America’s Most Challenging High Schools’.”

The House passed the resolution on Oct. 6, and at a special ceremony, Caldwell presented it to Ball. Making jokes and giving smiles, Caldwell handed it over with a handshake.

When the Georgia General Assembly is not in session, representatives have the power to issue Privileged Resolutions on behalf of their office. The resolution honoring Etowah falls under this category.

“I am very excited to be able to honor my alma mater in this way,” Caldwell said.

Caldwell was the one to give this special distinction to Etowah because he is an alumni of Etowah. He graduated in 2007.
