New to the teaching staff this year is Charlie Parker, a Special Education literature teacher, as well as the assistant boys’ basketball coach.

“I love it here! I work with fantastic teachers who love their jobs and are truly professionals in the fields of literature and Special Education,” Parker said.

Parker works with some of the 11th grade literature teachers, such as Mrs. Andersen, Mrs. Baxter, and Mrs. Osborne.

“I was placed in the English Department to serve some of our special needs students who struggle in reading and writing. It has been an interesting transition for me. I feel like I am learning something new every day,” Parker said.

Originally, Parker worked with Gwinnett County Public Schools for seven years, teaching Physical Education and Health. This is his first year teaching Special Education.

“I played some football in middle school at E.T. Booth as well but it became too difficult to play three sports, so I focused on basketball and baseball,” Parker said

Growing up, Parker was a multi-sport enthusiast. He played soccer, football, basketball and baseball. He spent four years of his basketball and baseball career here at Etowah. He was a part of the graduate class of 2000.

“There is a strong sense of pride in the community at Etowah and I feel very fortunate to be able to call myself an Eagle,” Parker said.
