Math is one of those subjects that many students feel strongly about;   they either love it or hate it.  But one thing is evident in Taylor Beckham’s classroom:  students enjoy being there.

Beckham is one of Etowah’s new math teachers even though that was not his first career choice.

“I was an architecture major, and my math professor told me I should pursue a career in mathematics, so I thought teaching would be the best way to do that,” Beckham said.

Beckham changed his major his first year of college. He liked that he could impact student’s lives by teaching. Beckham is head coach for the JV softball and baseball teams, along with helping the Varsity teams.

“I came to Etowah because it is a good school, and to become a better teacher,” Beckham said.

Although Beckham has felt overwhelmed, but the faculty at Etowah makes it feel less overwhelming.

“There have been some points where I’ve been overwhelmed, but for the most part, there’s lots of good faculty here that help out,” Beckham said.

Beckham gets along with his students. In fact, he had a discussion about how pointless Snapchat streaks are. His students love to make fun of him when his favorite football team loses.

“He’s very funny and sarcastic,” Miya Anderson, freshman, said.
