Marvel Studios is one of the biggest names in the movie-making industry. However, it is no secret that these past few years have not been the easiest for the once popular company. Due to many behind-the-scenes issues, the films have not been doing as well as they used to. With their brand-new announcements, though, some believe they can redeem their reputation for producing blockbusters.
“Marvel has been really falling off with their newer movies, but after their selection of upcoming movies with their new storylines and plotlines, post multiverse stuff might have some potential,” Sebastian Morales Vides, senior, said.
One of Marvel’s biggest problems has been their unwavering loyalty to the multiverse. From movies like ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness’ to their television shows like ‘Loki’ and ‘WandaVision’ they have stretched the plotline thin, and people are sick of it. Hopefully, these new projects, such as ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ can recapture audiences. While the multiverse has played its part, it certainly is not the only issue.
“I think that they are changing up the industry too much and they need to stick to original ideas,” Haven Wilson, freshman, said.
A sentiment shared amongst many movie-goers is that the new era past 2019’s ‘Avengers Endgame’ has brought in some unwelcome changes, one big change being television shows. Marvel pumps out several each year, and general audiences have a hard time keeping up with the storyline. Another change is introducing countless new heroes. Marvel already had so many unfinished plotlines, and it seems like they are more interested in making more plotlines instead of wrapping up old ones. At times, it can feel like Marvel just needs to fall back to basics.
“The only way Marvel can make a comeback is if Spider-Man 4 is a good and classic Spidey story,” Brendon Gilmore, junior, said.
Even through Covid 19 when everyone was afraid to go outside, the web-head’s last Marvel Studios film cracked a billion dollars at The Box Office. There has been talk of making this next Spider-Man film another multiverse story, but some fans think Marvel’s last saving grace could be making this movie just a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man film.
“I am excited for Marvel’s new movies,” Colby Kulszynski, sophomore, said.
Marvel has many projects releasing soon with much promise. The Avengers have saved the world countless times, but stay tuned to see their biggest challenge yet: saving Marvel Studios’ reputation.
