With a remarkable journey spanning from her days as a social worker to her new role as an Assistant Principal and Special Education Administrator at Etowah High School, Kelly Flatt’s commitment to helping young lives has been the guiding force behind her inspiring career.
Though Flatt has had many jobs that have heavily revolved around helping young children, one of the most notable was her time as a social worker. During her time as a social worker, Flatt assisted children in poor situations, supported families in need, and did her best to change people’s lives for the better.
“As a social worker, the clients experiencing the most trauma that are in need of immediate help are usually kids. Wanting to support them with strategies and therapy so that they can have a ‘normal’ childhood seemed like the most important job someone could have,” Flatt said.
With an abundance of experience working with children, Flatt has stayed motivated to help students have a better life both in and out of school. She believes that if one can impact someone’s life, one should do so in a positive way. She continues to do all that she can to help students in need by giving them the resources and assistance they require to be successful.
“I wanted to give students with fewer resources in school a better opportunity to learn. I wanted to even out the playing field for our students, whether they are in a special education program or not, and give them the best experience possible,” Flatt said.
Flatt’s amazement with a child’s mind is nothing short of inspiring. For years, she has worked tirelessly to help children improve their lives. Her unwavering commitment to helping form young minds is something to be admired.
“I have always been fascinated by how the brain works, processes information, and protects the rest of the body from things before we even know what is happening. Kids’ behaviors in this regard are nothing short of amazing in how they function in high stress situations,” Flatt said.
After years of helping shape young lives, Flatt continues to impact her community. With a strong passion for helping others and years of experience in this field, Flatt welcomes her new job at Etowah with open arms.
