The news has spread and is now all over social media – Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes, stars of the hit Netflix show Outer Banks, have officially broken up. 

The Outer Banks actor and actress announced the start of their relationship with an Instagram post on Jun. 14, 2020. A little over a year later, an inside source reported the couple had split. It is yet to be confirmed by Cline and Stokes themselves, but Cline has recently been spotted with Ross Butler, another actor who she could have romantic relations with.  

“Madelyn and Chase are no longer together. They were trying to work things out privately but broke up a couple of months ago,” an anonymous source told People magazine. 

Netflix released the second season of Outer Banks on Jul. 30, 2021, and it has since been renewed for a third season. Fans of the show wonder what this will mean for their onscreen characters, John B. Rutledge and Sarah Cameron.  

“I feel like most co-stars who end up dating in real life always end up breaking up. Their relationship was very public, and it seemed perfect, but I mean, who knows.” Natalie Calbert, senior, said.  

With Cline and Stokes playing lovers on the show, many fans were overjoyed to see they had the same chemistry offscreen, too. Now that their relationship behind the scenes has changed, there is no telling how it will affect the beloved fictional couple. Filming has not yet started for the third season, so there have been few predictions about what the former couple’s tension will be like on set.  

“It would be up to the director of the show, but I think there will be tension between the actors themselves since they haven’t come out with anything saying they are still friends,” Aubrey Lee, freshman, said.   

 There is no release date set for season three, but fans can stream season two on Netflix now and watch out for new announcements regarding the show on Outer Banks’s official Instagram.
