The new crib
@lilhuddy. @charlidamelio. @avani. @addisonre. @dixiedamelio. These popular creators are only a few of the people who hang out in a widely known place called the “Hype House.” The “Hype House” is co-owned by TikTokers Thomas Petrou, @petroutv, and Chase Hudson, @lilhuddy.
“It [‘Hype House’] is just a bunch of popular kids trying to have fun. Everyone needs to stop hating,” Maggie Bradley, junior, said.
The mansion is in Los Angeles. It has many luxuries including a pool, large dining and living areas, and a beautiful backyard. Many popular creators either live or temporarily stay at the house, making the group of teens and young adults well–liked on TikTok.
“I think the ‘Hype House’ is really cool though I always wonder how these teenagers had to ability to afford a $12 million Hollywood mansion. I have no hate; I just think it is so crazy how an app can change your life overnight. I think that is really cool,” London Faile, senior, said.
The Hype House started from a photo shoot with popular creators on the app, and within minutes of posting videos together at the photo shoot with the hashtag #hypehouse, their content went viral. The collab-based TikTok account for these creators is @thehypehouse, and it currently has 7.6 million followers. The instagram, @thehypehousela, has 1.5 million followers. Each of these accounts continue to grow daily.
“My thoughts on the ‘Hype House’ is that they are teens who have the looks and time to be on TikTok,” Alicia Isenberg, freshman, said.
One reason the “Hype House” has increased in popularity recently is the relationship between fifteen-year-old Charli D’Amelio, @charlidamelio, who has 23.4 million followers and seventeen-year-old Chase Hudson, @lilhuddy, who has 12 million followers on TikTok. This relationship has been anticipated for weeks by viewers, and fans stay up-to-date on their posts as a couple.
“I think it’s very interesting they both met because they are both TikTok famous,” Lauren Giesler, sophomore, said.
There are varying opinions regarding the “Hype House.” Many who learned about this account found it disheartening because they miss the old TikTok where all content creators were enjoyed instead of a few set people.
“The old TikTok was great, and I liked how people were original,” Kaden Hinmon, sophomore, said.
These teenagers may not be stressing over AP exams, but they are worried about which TikTok audios will get them viral again.
