The Christmas spirit has taken Etowah by a blizzard and students are getting into the holiday season.  On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Etowah band put on a Christmas-themed performance with the eighth grade band students at E.T. Booth to help get the student body even more excited for this joyous time of year.

It was Christmas-themed. We played mostly holiday songs,” Aiden Allen, junior, said.

The performance consisted of a series of Christmas songs to celebrate the holiday season and gave the opportunity for the eighth graders to play along with the Etowah band.

It was pretty cool. We worked in class for a long time on these songs,” Drake Wright, freshman, said.

The band’s last concert of 2019 was conducted by the student teacher Jonathan Swann. This will be Swann’s  final concert with the band before he leaves Etowah after finishing all of his required student teaching. However, to fulfill the yearly tradition, Stephen Long conducted the song, “Sleigh Ride,” like he has for years.

“I am going to miss Swann; he has helped us grow,” Johnathan Defek, sophomore, said.

The concert was not only Swann’s last performance, but it was also the last holiday themed concert for the seniors before they move on and flee the nest to the next stage of their lives.

The band has worked very hard to get to where we are now,” Kiara Robinson, sophomore, said.

With the curtains closed for 2019, the Etowah band is tuning up its instruments to prepare for 2020, which is sure to be filled up with new songs and performances.
