Although the weather in the south has been getting hotter instead of cooler, the seasons have officially changed, and fall has arrived. In other words, fall sports are back and college football fans are getting excited about the return of their favorite teams.

“The beauty of it [college football] is that all differences are put aside for about three hours or so while we’re watching the game,” Morgan Castle, junior, said.

As it stands after week three, Clemson has taken the first spot in the NCAA football rankings with Alabama in second and Georgia ranked third, none of which is surprising. However, today Georgia is set to play Notre Dame, a rival of theirs since last season’s College Football Playoffs. Notre Dame is currently ranked seventh, but with the lack of a challenging schedule, a loss against Georgia in Athens would blow their chances at making the Playoffs.

“Yes [I’m watching the game], and I think Georgia is going to win because their run game is going to kill Notre Dame’s defense,” Josh Conley, sophomore, said.

As for the College Football Playoff National Championship, football fans are making their fair share of bets on which two teams will play in the game this year. It is not shocking to hear that many predictions include some combination of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, or Oklahoma considering all four teams have been powerhouses for the past few years.

“I think Clemson [will make it] because they’re the best team,” Colin Pentecost, sophomore, said.

Whether you enjoy tailgating with your friends and family or enjoying the games from the comfort of your couch, the 2019-2020 college football season is shaping up to be one full of upsets, heartbreaking losses, and triumphant wins.
