As the basketball season arrives here at Etowah, the girls’ varsity and junior varsity prepare for a great season ahead of them. With eight seniors making up most of the varsity team and eight freshmen taking on a big part of junior varsity, there are many opportunities to succeed this season.

“If you could define Lady Eagles’ basketball, it would be ‘EAT’ Effort. Attitude. Toughness,” Oliva Heck, sophomore, said.

The girls base their idea of teamwork on the acronym E.A.T. This helps them understand what they need to have when taking the court as players and teammates. Trip Holton, last year’s assistant coach on varsity, was promoted to head coach this year, and returning coach Victoria Brown continues to lead JV. Courtney Hatchett returned to be assistant varsity and JV coach after taking a year off. The girls are hit with a new work ethic and idea on basketball, and coach Marc Richardson has become a big part of the Etowah basketball program this year, also.

Senior Brittany Tullis believes this is the year the Lady Eagles will make a name for themselves.

“Not only will this team come out with a new work ethic but to be better and win more than lose and to improve in any way possible.” With eight seniors leaving this year, they want a last season that will always be remembered here at Etowah. Along with the seniors, freshman Sydne Watts out the varsity roster.

During the previous summer league, senior Julianne Cantwell tore her ACL keeping her off the court her senior year.  Although she may be injured, Cantwell continues to support the Lady Eagles showing her true character as a teammate, no matter the struggle.

The Woodstock Wolverines learned firsthand what E.A.T. meant as Etowah won in overtime after three years straight of losing to the cross town rivals.  Come cheer on our Lady Eagles.
