She grabs her morning coffee, feeds the cat, and heads out the door. Chloe Gambrell, Etowah science teacher, is ready for a day full of teaching.

“I wake up really early. I am not a morning person, but I am trying to be,” Gambrell said.

While she is new to Etowah, Gambrell’s best friend, Opal Mason, is the Etowah yearbook advisor and 9th grade literature teacher. The two met at Kennesaw Elementary, where they were ASP workers together.

“She always has something creative and engaging for the students. It is just really cool to see her work with high school students, but I also know how great she was with second graders,” Mason said.

Mason and Gambrell clicked after unknowingly buying the same headband from a shop in Seaside, Florida. The two later visited Seaside Beach for Gambrell’s wedding, where Mason was matron of honor.

“It was probably the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” Mason said, recalling the wedding.

In between working at an elementary school and teaching at a high school, Gambrell was previously a middle school teacher in Cobb County but decided she wanted a change.

“Middle school was not where I wanted to be. The kids are definitely a crazy bunch,” Gambrell said.

After Gambrell decided it was time for something new, she looked for a job as a high school teacher.

“I have several friends who talk about how amazing Etowah is as a school, so I decided to put my name into the mix,” Gambrell said.

Gambrell teaches both Earth Systems and biology.

“I’m busy, but I love it,” Gambrell said.

Gambrell loves being at Etowah and is ready for the year ahead.
