The beginning of the school year marks the beginning of Etowah’s fall drama production. The drama club is now working on its annual regional One Act. Last year at this time, Radium Girls won several awards for the show including best tech crew best actor. The characters have already been cast for the show, so all that is left is practice, practice, practice with the goal of continuing to win awards and keeping the title of best play in the region close in sight.

“It is my first acting role I’m taking up this year, and I am so excited to get a chance to perform. I’m going to be performing around a large, talented group of actors who are working extremely hard to give as amazing of a performance as they can,” Robby Hogsten, junior, said.

Most plays have multiple acts and multiple scenes; however, a One Act show consists of only one act.

“I love One Act because I just really enjoy getting to act. It’s so fun to become an entirely different person. Also, I am pretty competitive, so I love the fact that One Act is a competition,” Delaney Stemmerman, senior, said.

The One Act this year, Over the River and Through the Woods, is about a boy whose strong relationship with his grandparents is threatened by a job opportunity that involves moving to Seattle.  His grandparents want him to stay home, so they talk to an old friend’s granddaughter. The granddaughter agrees to try to convince the boy to stay by making him fall in love with her. The cast is excited to portray this unique type of love story.

“I can’t wait for the One Act. We did a script reading on Monday, and the cast is amazing. I know it will be a great show, and I can’t wait for the Etowah community to see,” Duke Jenkins, sophomore, said.

Come see Over the River and Through the Woods on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20 in Etowah’s auditorium. Watch the Talon for upcoming ticket information.
