New Algebra II and College Readiness Algebra teacher, Kandra Bethke brings her passion and love for teaching into her classroom every day.

“My favorite part is interacting with the kids—helping them discover math. I’m a little bit of a different math teacher,” Bethke said.

Bethke’s goal is to teach her students to enjoy math. Not everybody does, but she strives to help them.

“My gift is that I am not a brilliant math-minded person, but I can break things down to basic levels where everybody can get it,” Bethke said.

While some teachers have new teaching techniques, Bethke prefers to teach more “old school.”

“I use some old tried-and-true methods, and it seems to help. My main goal is to change the students’ perspectives of math. The majority of students hate math, so I try to change their perspective,” Bethke said.

Bethke has been teaching for about 15 years, and she has been in Cherokee County for seven.

“I’d like to stay for a while. Everyone here has just been so welcoming and helpful, and I really like the atmosphere here,” Bethke said.
