While many people do not stick with their childhood sport, Jaxon Etter, who has played basketball for nearly a decade and plans to continue playing in college, has a passion and determination for the sport that has become clear throughout his success. This is the junior’s second year playing on varsity, and he has already won multiple awards on his own and with Etowah’s basketball team.

“By playing for so long and on so many teams, I’ve created friendships that I would’ve never made without it,” Etter said.

The Atlanta Tipoff Club bestowed the all-metro honors to Etter who helped lead his team to the 7A Regional Championship while picking up Region and County player of the year titles, as well as being rewarded MVP at the Georgia Coaches’ Association Junior All-Star Game.

“It was a dream come true because my dad was an All-State player when he played, so following in his footsteps was really cool,” Etter said.

While he is a major leader this year, next year Etter will take on even more responsibility as a senior. He always strives to lift up his teammates and thanks them for helping create a great team.

“I was a leader of my team on and off the court, physically and verbally. I lead our team in points, steals, and charges taken, but none of that could be possible without the help of my teammates,” Etter said.

No matter what challenges the game throws at him, Etter pushes through them to lead his team to victory. He averaged 14.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game throughout the season.

“[My] biggest challenge is my height because it will be tough to play at the next level at 6’3. All other challenges can be improved upon through hard work,” Etter said.

Through Etter’s ambition for basketball, he has been able to accomplish many things in the sport and will continue to excel.
