Most of society will agree that it is not socially acceptable to wear cosplay out in public, but the Sequoyah Regional Library System has come up with a way not only to cosplay but enjoy other fandom-related activities. That place is Sequoyah-Con 2018.

For those who do not know, a ‘fandom’ is a fan base that surrounds a series of books, TV shows, movies, video games, or people, and cosplay is dressing up in a costume that is identical to the appearance of a character in a fandom.

“Sequoyah-Con allows us to provide a full day of family fun with panels, activities, and programs that appeal to the fan in all of us. All for free. First hosted in the fall of 2016 to great success, Sequoyah-Con returns on March 24, 2018, and promises to be even bigger and better than before,” John Rogers, Sequoyah Regional Library community engagement coordinator, said.

Sequoyah-Con has panels and events for all fangirls and boys, spread over four of the libraries in the Sequoyah Regional Library System. The libraries that are hosting activities include R.T. Jones Memorial Library, Woodstock Public Library, Pickens County Library, and Gilmer Library.  The event themes range from Disney, sci-fi, superheroes, and more. Other events include photo booths, games, contests, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) activities like 3-D Printing, robotics.

“Sequoyah-Con allows us to connect with our library audience on a more personal level through a shared interest in pop culture. Everyone’s a fan of something,” Jeff Fisher, Sequoyah-Con 2018 Committee Chair, said.

2018 Sequoyah-Con is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 24, and a full itinerary is available at the Sequoyah Regional Library system website. Click here to go to the website. For more information about STEAM, click here
