Hoep for the future

For some, band is a way to socialize with friends and meet new people. For others, it is something taken more seriously. Lizy Hoepfinger, senior, has auditioned for GMEA All-State Band, a prestigious performance group with two rounds of auditions, since seventh grade. This year, she was able to achieve a perfect score on her audition, which is rare. However, that score did not come without hard work.

“I decided to step up my game this year and have been practicing at least an hour a day since November,” Hoepfinger said.

Hoepfinger joined band in sixth grade and immediately loved it. She saw band as a fun class and a way to make new friends.

“I saw it [band] as more of a social thing up until eighth grade, when I started to take it more seriously,” Hoepfinger, senior, said.

Hoepfinger plans to continue playing her flute throughout college. She will attend the University of Georgia and be a part of the school’s band, The Marching Redcoats.

“In college, I plan to double major in Flute Performance and Business,” Hoepfinger said.

Hoepfinger’s dedication to her instrument has made her a successful and talented musician, and she plans to continue this pathway throughout her life.
