Soaring to success
October 15, 2018

As the new year hits the ground running, track season follows closely behind. Rodney Hunter, head coach of the track team, says he has the same expectations he had last year. He plans to work more on times and being stricter about participation to step up the team’s performance.

“We will be focusing on the same kind of training but more intense and consistent,” Hunter said.

Last season, Etowah boys placed second at the Etowah Invitational, a countywide meet for varsity runners. Hunter expects his seniors to lead the team to another amazing season.

“In 2017, Etowah’s senior boys led the track team to victory in their 400×100 relay group. This year, I am excited to see our Lady Eagles lead the team,” Kennedi Hamilton, track manager, said.

Towards the end of this season, Hunter will be more focused on helping the team of young athletes achieve its goals rather than winning. Hunter explains that he has had his time as an athlete and coach, and now it is time for his team and each individual player to shine individually. It is not simply about winning but improving every day.

“I really did track to stay in shape and work up my build and build endurance, and what I’ve heard about Coach Hunter, he can get me there. I am stoked to start track this year,” Ethan Cintron, sophomore, said.

Both the runners and coaches are excited for the start of the season Feb. 15 at River Ridge.
