The Etowah girls basketball team has had a slam dunk season so far!

“I really like being on the team. Basketball is one of my favorite sports, and we all get along really well,” Olivia Heck, junior, said.

The varsity and junior varsity team practice about seven to eight hours a week in the Old or New Gym from 3:45–6:00 pm. They work on fundamental drills, offensive plays, defensive schemes, and scrimmage. Practice runs Monday-Friday except for game days.

“We typically have games on Tuesdays or Fridays,” Trip Holton, JV coach, said.

Before each game, the team watches films of their opponent’s games. They use that to better prepare themselves and see what they can expect from the other team.

“We try to get as much shooting in and make sure the girls are confident going into the game so that they can play their hardest,” Victoria Carter, varsity coach, said.

The JV team has won two games and lost three. The Varsity team has won two games and lost five.

“They have played West Forsyth, River Ridge, and then East Paulding. The Varsity team also played in a tournament over Thanksgiving Break,” Carter said.

Throughout practice, players on both the JV and Varsity team have grown close together.

“All of my teammates are like family to me, and it’s a huge part of my life,” Maggie Messerly, sophomore, said.

Come watch the girls play against West Forsyth on Dec 19. Junior varsity will play at 5:00 pm., and varsity will play at 6:30 pm.
