After a successful season, the Etowah Lady Eagles softball finished as the state runners-up. The team traveled to Columbus, Georgia, on Oct. 25 for a three-day state championship tournament.

“Columbus or bust,” Abigail Billings, freshman varsity player, said.

The team won 21 out of 25 games during the season. They practiced daily from 3:45 to 6:30. During their practices, they would split up infield and outfield for defense. They also set up hitting stations to practice their batting skills.

“I know they have worked super hard this season, and I’m glad all of their dedication has paid off, and they have a chance of winning a state title in Columbus,” Taylor Boysen, freshman softball player, said.

The Lady Eagles softball team made school history. They were the first softball team to win the Sweet Sixteen, a tournament for the top sixteen teams in the state. After they won, they were able to move on to the Elite Eight, a statewide softball tournament only open to the top eight teams. They were the first softball team in school history to accomplish this feat. They then traveled to Columbus and placed second in the state. Congratulations on a great season Lady Eagles!
