Apple recently announced its new technology ranging from the Apple Watch Series 3 to the iPhone X. Pre-orders for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus began in late September, but what is the difference between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8?

“I think the iPhone 8 is cool, but it’s a lot like the iPhone 7. There is really nothing special about it, and the price is awful. I just don’t really like it,” Lily Wardrip, sophomore, said.

For starters, the new iPhone 8 has an A11 bionic chip. The new chip makes the phone run 25 percent faster than a phone with the A10 chip. The chip is supposed to reduce the amount of energy used to run the phone by 70 percent.

“I think it’s great that the iPhone 8 is going to work faster than the 7 and use less of the battery life,” Rachel Ransom, junior, said.

Other differences between the two are that the iPhone 8 has an all glass back and fewer color choices. Rose Gold is gone, so Silver, Space Grey, and Gold are the only colors available. The camera quality is the same between the models, except that the iPhone 7 Plus and 8 Plus have telephoto lenses, which focus on an object in the background, and bring it into the picture as a subject.

“I don’t think there’s really a big difference; it’s just prettier.” Grayce Ledford, freshman, said.

Sales of the iPhone 8 have been lower than predicted. It appears people are choosing to stick with their phones or wait for the iPhone X release later this year.
